Do you recognize this tree? If you’re a golfer, you should. It’s the famous Eisenhower Tree on the Augusta National Golf Club course in Georgia – where the Master’s is played, of course!
The Eisenhower Tree is a loblolly pine, and it’s named for President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Eisenhower was a fine president but we can’t say the same for his golf game — he hit that tree so many times with an errant shot that he asked the club to remove it at a club meeting in 1956.
The club didn’t remove the tree, and the big old pine lasted until February, 2014, when it suffered extensive damage during an ice storm.
Do you have a favorite tree at one of the local golf courses — Los Robles, Westlake, Camarillo Springs or Lindero Country Club? If so, tell us why.
